Before talking about this ban let’s first understand

What is Mastodon Account?

Mastodon is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to the Twitter service. Which are offered by a large number of independently run nodes, known as instances, each with its code of conduct, terms of service, privacy policy, privacy options, and moderation policies.

Why Twitter is Banning these Accounts?

As per the reports, after Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover the users of Mastodon along with a few other similar platforms increased. After the increase, many Twitter users started adding mastodon links to their bios. To this company reacted by not allowing its users to update the mastodon URL’s in their bios. and if someone tries to do so a message showing that it’s unsafe appears.  And the same has been shared by users on Twitter itself.

Twitter started banning these accounts stating that these accounts are a threat to privacy and can be used against people. Twitter banned the Elonjet account which belonged to a Florida student for tracking Elon Musk’s private jet in real-time. Latter his personal account was also suspended. In this matter, Elon Musk said that accounts like this can be a threat to his life as they can track him. And can be used to plan anything against him.

Twitter suspended more than 87000 accounts ever since Elon Musk took over the company. Among the suspended accounts there were accounts of some critical journalists who were writing about the owner Elon Musk.
