Google celebrates Maria Telkes “The Sun Queen” birthday with a new doodle

Today’s Google Doodle’s main focus on the subject is the Sun Queen and the pioneer of solar energy – Maria Telkes. She rose to prominence as a top biophysicist and scientist worldwide.

Maria Telkes was born on 12th December 1900. She completed her studies in physical chemistry at Eotvos Lorand University and then earned her Ph.D. in 1924. Then she shifted to the US and started working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a member of the solar energy committee. After that, she invented instruments and technologies with solar energy and came to be known by the nickname Sun Queen.

She is the biggest reason for today’s world to use solar cookers, solar batteries, solar panels, solar geysers, and other solar-powered technologies. She also played a major role in World War II by developing a solar-powered water distiller which was used to purify the sea water into fresh water. This helped the soldiers live for a longer time on the battlefield. She later developed solar-powered residences.

She leads the world to a new way of living, saving the environment and promoting non conventional sources of energy.
