The Bajaj RE EV series of Electric Rickshaws has been on the low for some time now as the brand is taking its own sweet time in launching it. However, a buzz has been created that it might launch this year.
Indian automotive giant, Bajaj Auto is one of the largest 3W manufacturers in the world in terms of sales volumes, Piaggio being the second highest-selling manufacturer. Despite receiving approval from NCT Delhi in 2020, its launch was delayed due to COVID-19.

Recent spy photos by Rush Lane show that the Bajaj RE electric rickshaw resembles its ICE counterpart in most respects. It is 5.5 feet tall, 4.2 feet broad, and 8.6 feet long. It features a 170 mm ground clearance.
The rounded front fascia, all-halogen headlights, front plastic paneling, metal mudguard, and R12 steel wheels are a few of the features. The amount of space is roughly the same as that of Bajaj RE ICE rickshaws.
The battery pack probably occupied the majority of the cabin’s space. The driver portion has undergone a number of changes, including the usage of new plastic paneling. The dashboard has grown in size and now includes a lockable storage area.
The instrument cluster now has two dials on either side of the dashboard and is entirely digital. Users may get vital data including battery level, travel distance, and distance until empty.
On a full charge, the Bajaj RE electric rickshaw will have a 120 km range. The 4-hour battery charging time may change depending on the type of charger used. But it’s not yet clear whether the Bajaj RE electric rickshaw will have access to quick charging.
Hence the Bajaj RE EV seems to be a promising launch with people waiting patiently for the release. Nonetheless, for electric rickshaws to go mainstream, special incentive programs need to be introduced.
