IPL 2023 will be streamed on JioCinema for free here are the details

This is good news for all IPL fans. The 2023 Indian Premier League will be streamed live in India by the telecom giant Jio, for free. And not just that, the League will also be streamed in 12 different languages.

According to reports, after the success of the Reliance company in the live streaming of the FIFA World Cup, the IPL seems to be the next milestone.

Viacom18, which was a joint venture between Network18 (a subsidiary of Reliance Industries) and Paramount Networks, has bagged the digital rights of the IPL for a whopping Rs 23,758 Cr (as per reports) and will hence be allowing its free live streaming in 4K. This specifically means that JioCinema has received a nod from the BCCI to carry out this feat.

“We want to eliminate all barriers in terms of consumption – availability, affordability, and language. The reach of the LEAGUE will be bigger than IPL on TV. It will not be bigger by a small amount, but by a massive one,” Anil Jayaraj, CEO of Viacom18 Sports, told e4m when asked about the reason and goal for this strategy. He even said that the main purpose is to present IPL in a way that has never been explored before.

According to a Business Standard report, the company is planning “to broadcast IPL in regional languages, bundling free IPL viewing with Jio telecom subscription packages or allowing users with rival mobile plans to access some form of free broadcast on JioCinema.”

Viacom18 is planning IPL 2023 LIVE Streaming in 12 languages with pan-India language coverage. IPL 2023 will stream in 12 languages. Apart from English, Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, Assamese may find a place in the commentary as well.

Now why is this an important moment in the history of IPL? Well, that is because IPL has never been streamed live for free. Platforms such as  Disney+Hotstar, Airtel, Vodafone and Jio required a subscription in return for a live stream of the IPL.

Moreover, having launched 5G services in the metro cities this is a clear strategy to gain popularity amongst consumers by providing free of cost premium viewing services of the cricket match. If Reliance is able to successfully pull through this, it would be at an advantageous position to win the BCCI Media Rights that will be announced sometime this year.
